2026 Library Master Plan

At the Tuesday, April 21 Kyle City Council meeting, Kyle City Council approved the community-driven Kyle Public Library Master Plan.

Developed through extensive community engagement and data-driven analysis, the Library Master Plan reflects the voices, needs, and priorities of Kyle residents. The plan establishes a long-term vision for library services, spaces, and facilities while addressing rapid population growth, evolving technology, and increasing demand for programs and resources.

The Library Master Plan sets a strategic framework focused on expanding access, enhancing services, and strengthening the library’s role as a welcoming community hub for learning, connection, and innovation.

Key Priorities

The plan identifies several key priorities to guide the future of the Kyle Public Library:

  • Expanding space for children, teens, and families
  • Increasing access to books, technology, and digital resources
  • Creating quiet study areas and flexible meeting spaces
  • Enhancing programs for all ages, including workforce development and lifelong learning
  • Improving access to library services across the community, including areas east of I-35
  • Developing inclusive, welcoming spaces that reflect Kyle’s identity and diversity

Project Overview:

Kyle City Council approved a contract with 720 Design, Inc. to develop a Library Master Plan at the December 3, 2024 City Council Meeting. Goals of the Kyle Public Library Master Plan include:

  • Evaluating current trends and future needs to ensure the Library remains a vital resource for the community.

  • Analyzing and recommending library trends.

  • Projecting community growth.

  • Determining how the library can best serve its residents.

Key aspects of the plan include forecasting space and staff needs as well as addressing programs, services, collections, and technology requirements to create a comprehensive roadmap for the Kyle Public Library.  

The planning process included surveys, open houses, focus groups, and community events. An online survey conducted in summer 2025 received 628 responses, helping identify top community priorities such as expanded children’s space, quiet areas, and more flexible programming and gathering spaces.

  • May 30, 2025: Library Master Plan Feedback Event #1
  • July 2 - September 2, 2025: Library Master Plan Survey
  • July 12, 2025: Library Master Plan Feedback Event #2
  • September 2, 2025: Library Master Plan Feedback Event #3
  • January 14, 2026: 720 Designs presented the final draft of the Library Master Plan to the Library Board
  • February 17, 2026: 720 Designs presented the final draft of the Library Master Plan to City Council
  • April 9, 2026: Staff held a discussion on the Library Master Plan with Library Board for additional feedback
  • April 21, 2026: Kyle City Council approved the Library Master Plan
