City of Kyle Council Member Claudia Zapata Submits Resignation; Special Election to Be Held December 12, 2026
KYLE, TEXAS –– District 3 Council Member Claudia Zapata submitted her formal resignation from office on September 25, 2026.
Per the City Charter (Sec. 3.04), the city is required to hold a special election to fill a vacancy within 120 days of its occurrence. Because the runoff election date scheduled for December 12, 2026, falls within that timeframe, the City of Kyle will hold a special election on that date to elect a new District 3 council member who will complete the remainder of the current term, which runs through November 2028.
An election packet and application, along with key dates and filing deadlines for interested candidates, is available at CityofKyle.gov/SpecialElection.
The City of Kyle will accept applications for a place on the ballot now until 5 p.m. on Monday, November 2, 2026, at the City Secretary’s Office on the 2nd floor of the Kyle Public Safety Center at 1700 Kohlers Crossing. Applications for a place on the ballot must be notarized. The City Secretary’s Office offers this service at no charge. Appointments are required to ensure staff availability. Until a new council member is elected and sworn in, Council Member Zapata will continue to serve as a holdover pursuant to both state law and the City Charter.
Council Member Zapata has served the City of Kyle since November 2025.
