Community Review Underway as Kyle’s Popular Rideshare Program Hits 5-Year Anniversary

KYLE, TEXAS –– As the Uber Kyle $3.14 rideshare program approaches its 5-year anniversary, the City of Kyle is kicking off a review to identify and review near and long-term recommendations to determine how best to provide rideshare services to the Kyle community for the next five years and beyond.

The Uber Kyle $3.14 program has grown from just under 4,000 trips in 2021 to nearly 60,000 trips in 2024. The program’s success has led to the need for a comprehensive evaluation of the program, including daily operations and overall structure.

The review, led by the City’s Transportation and Public Works Department, seeks input from area residents about the program’s strengths and weaknesses, gaps in coverage, costs, management, and other details that will help develop the most appropriate transportation options for residents.

Some changes are already underway. As of September 1, the cost of the share for the Uber Kyle airport vouchers changes to a 50-50 split between the rider and the city. A change from 31.4% for the rider and 68.6% for the city. This change, approved by City Council on August 5, will improve budget oversight while maintaining current service levels and support future program growth.

“The Uber Kyle $3.14 program has been a game-changer for Kyle, but as our city grows so must the program,” Director of Transportation and Public Works Mike Trimble said. “This review is about making sure we continue to provide affordable, reliable rides while planning for the future.”

The City encourages residents to participate in this review by providing feedback online at CityofKyle.gov/Mobility between now and Friday, October 31 or in-person at the following pop-up events:

During the pop-ups, city staff and project consultants will be available to provide information and address questions from residents. Attendees are encouraged to share their experiences using the Uber Kyle service and provide input on potential improvements.
